Best UK eCommerce Site of the Year

This past year, Adobe’s UK team has been working on 2 key areas: “Personalisation/Culturalisation” and “Solving Customer Problems”.

As Adobe enters its next stage of growth, one major lever we are working on is “Personalisation and Culturalisation” as we understand that although the UK is an English-speaking market, the UK does not equal the US. Therefore, the team have been working on tonality, imagery and localised approaches to both campaigns and promo pricing merchandising messaging across our website to make it more “British”.

Our second key theme is “Solving Customer Problems”. Our research and insights indicate that our customers were getting lost across our website and were getting confused with our offerings, products and plans. This built the case to create quizzes and recommendation tools within our website to ease the customer’s journey.

Ultimately, there is no blueprint for Personalisation/Culturalisation and there are still many problems for us to solve, however the UK team are in the midst of our growth project and aim to continue iterating and making our website experiences best-in-class for our customers.

As a standalone brand anchored in empowering women and respectfulness towards both the environment and each other, replete with a range of high-end skincare, beauty and fragrances, Like Digital and Partners designed a gentle yet compelling UX to deliver early and impactful brand-messaging, while equally drawing users naturally into discovering the products they wish to purchase. A blend of strategically placed brand-video content, story-telling-based yet functional product pages, and guided selling functionality such as the emotional-questions-based “fragrance finder” provided this experience. To deliver this technically Like Digital & Partners created an ecosystem built around the MACH principles, creating a headless front-end experience on Contentstack, a powerful ecommerce engine on the open-SaaS, API-first commerce platform BigCommerce, and supplemented with microservices such as single-sign-on from the wider La Perla digital ecosystem. Look Fabulous Forever – Look Fabulous Forever

Tricia Cusden founded Look Fabulous Forever in 2013, aged 65. As she got older, she found the makeup and skincare products she used no longer worked for her skin. She was frustrated that mainstream beauty brands or retailers weren’t catering to her demographic and didn’t see it as important. So she formulated, manufactured and distributed a range of beauty products designed for the unique needs of older women.

Each of our products is designed to cater for the specific needs of post-menopausal women. Our customers are predominantly in their 60s and 70s, with many in their 80s, 90s and beyond. All our sales are direct to consumer, the vast majority through our website. A handful of high value customers prefer to place their orders by phone.

We’ve made substantial changes to our website in the last 18 months and seen significant increases in our conversion rate as a result. These include a foundation matching tool, a colour quiz to help customers find the products they are looking for. We also started personalising our website so that each person landing on the website is served content relevant to them.

As a growing brand with a loyal customer base, Rodial needed to ensure a solid infrastructure for its website. This would pave the way for the brand to scale its online business efficiently and keep up with the amount of traffic that the website was receiving. Rodial continued its journey with a PWA framework and headless approach to reach its mobile-first clients and increase site speed on Magento 2 with a Vue Storefront stack.

Established in 2013 by pharmacists Andy Boysan and Scott McDougall, The Independent Pharmacy is a CQC regulated online pharmacy and doctor offering advice and access to hundreds of medicines in the UK.

The Independent Pharmacy provides a safe, personal online healthcare service with patients receiving confidential health consultations with a UK doctor and prescriptions from the comfort of their own home.

As well as offering a range of over-the-counter and prescription medicines, they also provide expert advice on a range of common health issues. Their guidance helps patients better understand their condition so they can make the decision that’s best for them.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, consumer behaviour within the healthcare and pharma business landscape has changed in many different ways. The team at The Independent Pharmacy saw the struggles that their own customers were having due to these restrictions, and made it their mission to address and adapt their strategy to best support and service to these customers and patients.

With digital development being their main objective, The Independent Pharmacy focused on revamping their website and introducing new hyper-personalised automated customer journeys with the highlight being the new replenishment program, which includes over 6 customer touchpoints and provides tailored information and recommendations based on the customer’s conditions. The Roman team analyse customer behaviour to understand purchase intent and purchasing cycles, to form and strategise their marketing strategies. They understand the customer prefers simplicity in terms of functionality and ensure the website is as accessible as possible.

A key element to customer satisfaction is website speed, and Roman obsess over this with ensuring their site remains the quickest of their competitors.

 

Seasalt – Seasalt

Seasalt is a modern lifestyle business aimed imbuing its customers with a love of Cornwall, blue skies and green countryside, while alluding to the region’s creative maritime heritage. It’s all about slow fashion and sustainability so the clothing website, which was transformed in 2021 by SQLI Digital Experience, needed to reflect those important values and give consumers space to absorb the brand ethos. Seasalt’s demographic and customer profile make purchases that are more considered – they’re not interested in fast-fashion.

While most fashion retailers are all about the quick sell, upsell metrics, Seasalt wanted to define its digital-first approach through subtlety. That’s not to say the metrics and upsells are not important. They are. Very. But it was key for the firm, which now has more than 65 stores around the UK and Ireland, to become recognised for beautiful and functional clothing, with attention to detail, that customers can enjoy wearing throughout the seasons, not fast clicks and discounts. And Seasalt wanted to give customers the freedom to shop online or in-store.

 

Tom&Co Ltd. – Oliver Bonas

We were approached by Oliver Bonas in 2013 to launch their first-ever Magento website. Since then, we’ve relaunched their website four times! We feel privileged to call Oliver Bonas one of our longest-standing clients.

It is hard to imagine this well-loved British brand, with now nearly 80 stores in the UK, began with founder Olly, standing behind a second hand till in their first small shop in 1993. Olly’s explorative spirit and love of giving evolved into a passion for bringing home gifts for friends from his travels. Deciding he could turn this into a business, Oliver Bonas was born.

Fast forward to the present day, Oliver Bonas is currently hitting 2 million page views each month and revenue has increased by 2900% since relaunching with us in 2013. It is currently running ahead in an advanced headless setup, with plenty of nifty features and omnichannel superpowers.

The title alone answers why it would mean such a big deal for us to win this award. Winning the award for Best Fashion Website would be a huge achievement for both of our teams to show our hard work is being recognised.

 

Visualsoft – Brother 2 Brother

Brother2Brother, in collaboration with Visualsoft, has created a unique eCommerce store pushing the boundaries of what is currently available in this market.

The brand challenged the eCommerce specialist to design and build a new eCommerce store that evolved their brand from a simple transactional site into a destination for customers to discover trends, read articles and essentially become a part of their lifestyle when it comes to purchasing designer clothing.

They required a best in class site that would stand out from their competitors, allowing them to acquire higher tier brands previously out of reach.

A clear vision was presented by Brother2Brother and the desire to display a ‘brutalist’ ‘retro’ aesthetic, without sacrificing conversion rates was an important factor. This resulted in a raw, minimalist style, not commonly used in eCommerce, coupled with solid underlying familiar UX patterns.

They have achieved an excellent middle ground for high-end retailers stocking multiple brands. Brother2Brother has an ‘on brand’ unique look and feel whilst maintaining fundamental eCommerce and UX principles to maximise conversion through the shopping experience.

Visualsoft is very excited by what they have achieved with this site and is already developing further enhancements, to further improve and help Brother2Brother expand its reach in a very competitive space.

Vivobarefoot shoes allow customers to connect with nature. Wearing Vivobarefoot means you connect with where you are walking. Having achieved B Corp Certification, Vivobarefoot’s primary goal is to make a positive impact on the planet, with shoes that are designed to last rather than maximise profit.

Vivobarefoot was previously hosted on a niche ecommerce platform. The company had aspirations to continue its strong growth and needed to find a platform that could grow along-side the business, and also make it resilient and secure. The site offers useful front end conversion tools – such as a product configurator, whereby a user inputs dimensions and associated data and the site suggest suitable products to meet the requirement.

Under the bonnet we have developed an online business system/digital operations platform – including a CRM for the Sales and Customer Service Team which they use for:

  • Order processing
  • Managing credit limits
  • Customer service notes and required actions – with the ability to schedule follow up tasks and alerts
  • Creating quotes, managing quotes, actioning quotes
  • Suppliers are managed and purchase orders raised via the system

The platform provides a lot of flexibility to enable a small eCommerce team in setting up promotions and creating, maintaining and managing a complex product catalogue, with ease – for example managing all options and attributes groups efficiently across multiple products in one step.

Specific B2B features available/in development for Tanks Direct include account specific pricing and the ability for a head office to order multiple items and allocate the order to different branches/delivery addresses.

Exceptional reporting – management information, covering sales, volumes, margins and so forth. We continue to write new reports for the management team as their requirements evolve.

Packaging Environmental Limited – Packaging Environmental

A tailored Magento Commerce site with bespoke features to fulfil unique business logic, GDPR compliance and enhanced B2B customer experience.

People are starting to realise that we need to change the way we use plastic, and to reduce the use of single-use plastics. Packaging Environmental is a wholesale specialist for eco-friendly food & drink packaging. They have been supplying sustainable packaging made from compostable and recycled recyclable materials since 2007.

With growing demand for their products, PE realised the need for a new website with bespoke features to help streamline their business processes, and provide their clients with an improved customer journey.

Packaging Environmental approached Absolute Design with a need for a bespoke Magento/Adobe Commerce Cloud site. They needed the new site to contain their historic data whilst maintaining current functionality. They also needed this site to integrate with their on-premise Sage50 ERP system to automate data flow such as listing new products on the site, managing prices & stock, managing customer records and their order fulfilment process.

Absolute has been working closely with PE to plan and execute the development. With years of experience and having delivered many Magento projects, Absolute was able to advise and offer a robust solution for this project.

Multiple factors in this project were ground-breaking for Dexcom, from launching into new markets through pure-play ecommerce, to the flexible subscription model that provided excellent customer experience. Part of our cross border campaign was dealing with the recent changes to Brexit. nShift had to educate all our customers regardless where they were based about the changes which would affect them directly as a client. We relied on all departments to deal and tackle the campaign based on crucial information allowing customers to adopt to the new requirement for cross border shipments.

The Cross border Campaign was created to allow customers to continue to fulfil cross border sales and move shipments with seamless interference. From the new regulations. Sending goods outside a domestic market brings challenges with it.

Two parts campaign educating our customers and working with all the carriers in the library to ensure compliance was met and shipping could continue.

Our ongoing cross border campaign still holds the core values and pillars of the campaign. Our knowledge, information and nShift expertise, being the key to the success.

How effective has the campaign been? Has it been successful, we can see shippers still sending shipments which is the main indicator success. What makes our campaign stand out and a success are the following reasons:

The Gym King by Global-e – Brand awareness and international expansion campaign

Rapidly growing fitness apparel brand Gym King partnered with Global-e in July 2019, in order to better cater to its international customers, expand into new markets and drive its global online sales. After integrating with Global-e, the world leading platform for direct-to-consumer cross border ecommerce, Gym King saw a large increase in international order numbers and conversion rates, through providing shoppers in 200+ destinations worldwide with a seamless localised shopping experience.

With its website localised for international shoppers, and each market proposition set optimally to meet the unique requirements of local shoppers, Gym King launched a cross border paid media campaign with Global-e’s expert International Digital Marketing team. The objective of the cross border activity was to increase quality traffic from key international markets and enhance international brand awareness in order to promote global sales growth for increased international revenues. The campaign was launched late March 2021, running until the end of December 2021.
